Fantastic Beasts Movie Party

For Evie’s 11th birthday, we settled on a Harry Potter based theme. That is when children receive their Hogwarts letter after all! Her birthday was perfectly timed with the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film.

THE INVITES: Newt Scamander’s Suitcase

I like to let my invitations set the tone for the party, so for this event, I based this papercraft invite off Newt’s mysterious suitcase. Evie chose beautifully textured paper that we found at our Michael's Craft Store for the outside of each suitcase. No two were exactly alike.

To add a semi-personalized touch, we made small “luggage tags” with each invitees’ initial. The inside of the suitcase was “filled” with Newt’s “field notes” and party details.

If you would like more information about these invites, or any of my other creations just send me an email.

THE LOCATION: Movie Theater

We held the party at Hollywood Blvd Cinema in Woodridge, Illinois.

The movie theater does have a full menu of food, desserts, drinks and cocktails, so adult guests were free to order whatever they wanted. However, we kindly asked them to cover their food & drink bill. We did, however, purchase their movie tickets. The party package included:

  • 1 ½ hour pre-show pizza party. They supplied the room, pizza, drinks and paper products. I supplied the cake.
  • Preferred seating for all the party goers for the Fantastic Beasts movie.
  • Popcorn, drinks and candy were served to their seats throughout the movie. For an extra cost, I added ice cream sundaes as an extra treat. Who doesn’t like ice cream, right?

THE CAKE: Newt’s Suitcase and Creature

We decided to carry through the suitcase theme for the cake as well. While searching Pinterest I found this idea at Cookies Cupcakes and Cardio

I used Creative Cakes Bakery, in Tinley Park, a local bakery, to recreate it. It was a big hit. The claws, locks, handle, and edges were all fondant pieces.

THE FAVOR: Fleece Fringe Scarves

I like giving favors that guests can actually use. Evie's birthday is November, so she chose to make fleece scarves in her favorite color. Evie chose her favorite colors of fleece, but you could easily incorporate Hogwarts' House colors too.

The next day at school all the girls were showing off their scarves, which made Evie really proud. We invited all the girls in her 5th grade so no one was left out.

She Pins blog has excellent instructions that made the project much easier. Check it out.

THE PARTY GAME:  Bean Boozled Jelly Bean Flavor Game

We had a little bit of "waiting" time before our party coordinator escorted us to our theater. To pass the time we (or actually the girls) played this Harry Potter-inspired game that tests taste buds.

I found the game at Party City. Participation was completely optional. The girls who opted out enjoyed watching the brave ones test their taste buds.

If you have any questions about this party, feel free to email me.

Hope this party idea inspires you to plan your own epic party! Happy Party Planning!
